UEED2022: Building the “sober” economy of tomorrow
On Monday, August 30, 2022, the Cité internationale universitaire de Paris welcomed professionals, entrepreneurs, business leaders, and students at the 2022 Universités d'été de l'économie de demain.
The conference’s theme “Sobriety, a new prosperity” aimed at forming the vanguard of tomorrow's economy and preparing for the economic revolution of the next few years to reverse the climate change curve and preserve natural capital and the planet.
This model for prosperity is based on quality, sharing, and the fight against waste, not on accumulation and the short term. It translates into new uses, know-how, and more sustainable consumption. It is also based on a fairer sharing of value and power in companies.
With this objective in mind, the conference welcomed a number of experts to discuss how people, governments and decision-makers have to make changes at all levels regarding the economy, organization, and priorities.
An enormous amount of work must be done on every sector of the economy - transport, food, energy, housing and other fundamentals. It also requires defining what well-being is and what it corresponds to in terms of minimum vital needs to be satisfied.
Consequently, it will be necessary to act on lifestyles: herein lies the theme of “sobriety”. Each individual must put into perspective their role. And on a bigger level, work towards putting in place a more fair, sustainable economic model.
